Bill Goff Long Ago Polo
Price: $190
"It's the summer
of 1922 at the Polo Grounds in
New York City. The Yankees will
move into their new ballpark in
The Bronx next summer. For now,
this is home, and there's no mistaking
the Yankee batter, even though
he isn't yet wearing his familiar
No. 3. Babe Ruth and the Yankees
are hosting the St. Louis Browns,
a team they will battle all summer
before finally winning the American
League pennant by one game. St.
Louis first baseman George Sisler
will capture the American League
batting crown with a .420 average.
And the World Series will be played
at the Polo Grounds between the
Yankees and the Giants, the park's
full-time tenant (the Giants won
in four games). There's no optical
illusion here; in this horseshoe
shaped ballpark the right field
foul pole is only 258 feet away!
Check out the National League
coats of arms on the facing of
the roof. They were removed after
the '22 season. Size: 21 5/8"
x 29 5/8""

Bill Goff Giants Six-Sixty
Price: $140
" The patch on
the left sleeve of the New York
Giants road uniform is the giveaway.
It was worn by National League
teams in 1951 to celebrate the
senior circuits 75th anniversary.
It was a big year for the Giants,
too, forever linked to Bobby Thomsons
legendary Shot Heard 'Round The
World in the National League playoff
against the Brooklyn Dodgers and
the debut of a young center fielder
by the name of Willie Howard Mays.
Twenty-two years later, Mays completed
a brilliant Hall of Fame career.
How many career homers for the
Say Hey Kid? Just check out the
stenciled number on the worn ballpark
seat. Size: 21 5/8" x 29 5/8""

Bill Goff Amazing Polo Debut
Price: $190
"Its Monday night,
May 28, 1951, and rookie Willie
Mays, 20, has just launched a
first- inning pitch from Boston
Braves southpaw Warren Spahn toward
the left field roof at the Polo
Grounds in Manhattan. It is Mays
first home at-bat for the New
York Giants, his first big league
hit and the first of 660 homers
in his amazing Hall of Fame career.
²For the first 60 feet,Ó Spahn
supposedly mused, ²it was a hell
of a pitch.Ó Mays had been summoned
to the Giants a few days earlier
and had gone 0-for-12 in a series
against the Phils in Philadelphia.
After this solo HR off Spahn he
went hitless in his next 14 at-bats,
but it hardly mattered to Giants
manager Leo Durocher, who knew
talent when he saw it. Spahn,
30, will go on to post his third
straight 20-plus win season en
route to a 363-win Hall of Fame
career. Walker Cooper is Bostons
catcher. Size: 29 5/8" x 21 5/8""

Bill Goff Amazing Polo Catch
Price: $500
"It's September
29, 1954, Game 1 of the Cleveland
Indians-New York Giants World
Series at the Polo Grounds in
Manhattan. And that's 23-year-old
Giants center fielder Willie Mays
running down and hauling in Vic
Wertz' enormous eighth-inning
drive for what will be remembered
always as one of the greatest
catches in World Series history.
Mays' effort, with runners on
first and second and no outs,
preserved a 2-2 tie and choked
off what could have been a pivotal
inning for the heavily-favored
Indians. When Giants pinch-hitter
Dusty Rhodes connected for a 257-foot
homer in the bottom of the 10th,
New York had recorded a 5-2 victory
and was on its way to a stunning
4-0 Series sweep of its American
League opponent. Size: 29 5/8"
x 21 5/8""
